FAQ’s
What if I’ve never cruised before? Generally speaking, cruises are well-tolerated. Most people find that they do not experience significant motion sickness. Occasionally, if the weather is bad, the water may be choppy, making the ship move a bit more, but that is usually combated easily with medication which is provided free of charge by the cruise line. Cruising is a great way to vacation and a short cruise like this one may be the best way to ‘get your feet wet’.
How do I make my reservation? To make your reservation, you may call the Royal Caribbean directly at 866.562.7625. Ask for group sales and reference group# 3472102 or the NCSG group on June 25th. You may also make your reservation by sending an email to Mia (Mia@NCSistagirls.org) or calling 919.672.3863. You will need to remit your $25 deposit to secure your reservation.
Are payment plans available? YES!!!We want to ensure that this cruise is affordable for everyone. After the $25 deposit (due Jan. 30, 2010), you may make monthly payments to pay for your cruise. While this is the suggested payment schedule, if you need to adjust your payments, please contact Mia. The final balance for all reservations MUST be made by May 15th.
What can I expect on board? Cruise ships offer a great deal of activities. There are restaurants, coffee shops, libraries, swimming pools, hot tubs, casinos, spas and more. The Monarch of the Seas boasts a rock climbing wall, basketball court, and sushi bar. There are Broadway-style shows, contests and games, as well as youth facilities and teen-only areas for those that want to make it a family trip.
What can I expect in port? This sailing gives us a full day in each port. While in Nassau, you will find excursions such as snorkeling or parasailing, or tours of the beautiful Atlantis. Some may also just want to walk around and tour the island on their own, getting to know the Bahamian culture and people. Cococay is a private island owned by Royal Caribbean where you’ll find Bahamian vendors and be treated to a fabulous buffet, and live music and entertainment.
Do I need a passport? The short answer is NO! The US government does not currently require a passport for cruises originating from and returning to the United States. HOWEVER, it is highly recommended that travelers use a passport. Without a passport, you are required to show a certified birth certificate as well as driver’s license. This can be a hassle to keep up with while boarding and de-boarding the ship.
Are there any other costs? Of course, you will have to get to Pt. Canaveral. See below for information on travel to/from the ship. Aside from that, the only other expenses involved are gratuities (typically $10 per person, per day covers gratuity for all services on board) and your own personal spending money for souvenirs, shore excursions, etc. Your cruise fare includes most entertainment on board except gambling and spa. It includes most food except the specialty restaurant/coffee shop, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages. There is complimentary food and drink available 24 hours a day.

How do I get to the ship? Port Canaveral is just outside Orlando International Airport. You can find affordable flights into Orlando on many of the major airlines. Your cruise fare does NOT include transportation to the ship. However, if you are interested in driving/riding the NCSG caravan from NC, please contact Mia (Mia@ncsistagirls.org) or Moni (Moni@ncsistagirls.org). For those who are interested, we will be organizing the road trip down to Florida. The drive from the Raleigh-Durham area is approximately 9 hours. The cost will depend on the number people participating, but we will simply split the gas/car costs among those of us who are taking the road trip. Additionally, if you are going to fly into Orlando and need transportation from the airport to the cruise ship, please email Mia so that she can provide you with the information for setting up a shuttle.
